Motion Design

A motion graphics title sequence for a 2023 Universal-Pictures produced, Netflix-released retelling of the classic story of Frankenstein, based on the original novel by Mary Shelley.
The process began with an extensive investigation into visual research of all things horror.
In high school, I fortunately read the book and took long, extensive notes. This really helped out here—it gave me a great jumping off point for location, atmosphere, etc.
Beyond the online research and physical notes, one thing I’m always aware of is keeping my eyes open to the environments around me in my day-to-day life and taking quick snapshots of anything that might be of use for reference.
Many images ended up influencing certain visual cues in the film, you can see here how that accidental rainbow moment on the right ended up influencing a certain design decisions like spontaneous rainbow inspiring the chromatic aberration treatment.
At the storyboard stage, the styles between frames were quite distinct and diverse but these unified over time.

Throughout the process, I learned an enormous amount about not only the practical, technical skills involved in producing a title sequence, but also in the wider philosophy involved in storytelling.
